2016 Nissan Titan XD Headlight

Like most good things in this world, the second-generation Nissan Titan has taken its own sweet time coming into being. The original plan was for the 2016 Titan XD to debut as a re-styled Ram 1500, but when the partnership with Chrysler failed, Nissan had to start at square one.

Truth be told, that’s probably not a bad thing. The new 2016 Nissan Titan XD uses a new Cummins 5.0-liter V-8 turbo-diesel, a first of it’s kind in the light-duty truck market. You can be sure Nissan’s going to exploit that advantage as much as they can when battling out for market share against the Big Three in Detroit.

Lead with Your Strengths

The first 2016 Titan model to be released is the super-powered Titan XD. The only engine offering on this model is the powerful Cummins V-8 mentioned previously. There will be other V-8 and V-6 options to follow the launch of the 2016 Titan XD, but Nissan knows that you have to lead with your strengths.

The XD has a few features that the standard Titan won’t. Some of the best include:

  • Pairing with the Aisin six-speed automatic transmission
  • A stronger, fully-boxed frame
  • Sturdier underpinnings than other Titan models.

Cummins Power Under the Hood

Cummins Engine | 310 Horsepower | 555 LB-FT of Torque | Two Stage Turbo | Responsive DOHC | 12,300 lbs Towing Power

Sure, 310 horsepower at 3200 RPM might be on the low end of what a modern gasoline V-8 engine can put out. The fact is, though, that the 555 lb-feet of torque at 1600 revs puts all of the other light-duty truck engines on the market today to shame.

And, with this engine, you don’t have to worry about any turbo lag. The M2 two-stage turbocharger more than takes care of that problem. You’re also looking at decent fuel economy and, while the official EPA ratings haven’t yet been released, we can expect it to run in the neighborhood of 22 to 23 mpg combined.

An Underserved Group of Buyers

Not a very few buyers find themselves stuck between two groups of trucks. Not everyone needs a heavy-duty rig. For some, it’s just way too much truck. 90% of the time, a light-duty truck fits the bill. However, there are two or three times a year that they need something in-between.

Let’s take a look at the stats of the Nissan XD, and see where it falls:

  • Payload rating of 2,000+
  • Max towing weight of 12,000 pounds
  • Gross-vehicle-weight rating over 8500 pounds

The numbers put the 2016 Nissan XD in both classes. Some might even call it a “light-duty-plus pickup.”

Lots of Technology to get the Work Done Right!

Titan XD Technology

It’s not just a powerhouse engine and impressive capacity that makes the 2016 Nissan Titan XD a tempting proposition. It features lots of tech to make the trip that much easier, including:

  • An integrated trailer-brake controller
  • Tow/haul mode control
  • Downhill speed control
  • Trailer-sway control
  • Rearview monitor with trailer guides
  • Integrated trailer-light monitoring
  • Optional fifth-wheel hitch
  • LED taillights and running lights
  • Optional LED headlights
  • Proximity-key access
  • Nissan’s channeled Utili-track tie-down system
  • Nissan’s Around View Monitor
