Features

Exterior

It’s been eight years since Nissan introduced the GT-R into the sports car world. With performance bordering on supercar for sports car pricing, the GT-R is one hot little number.

You can see it from the moment you lay eyes on it. Even the base trim level, appropriately known as the “Premium,” looks like it belongs on the list of top sports cars. It features 20-inch forged alloy wheels, summer-rated tires, LED adaptive headlights, LED running lights, keyless ignition and more.

The higher trim levels, including the Black Edition and the Nismo model, offer even more refinement. The 2016 Nissan GT-R has lightweight black alloy wheels and a carbon-fiber rear spoiler. The top-end Nismo model has body reinforcements, aerodynamic upgrades, and an optional titanium exhaust system.

The Cold Weather package adds in all-season run-flat as well a specially-formulated coolant to help the engine warm up faster.

Interior

The inside of the 2016 GT-R is just as impressive. In the Premium model you’ll get dual-zone climate control, a rearview camera, eight-way power driver seat, heated front seats and a noise-cancelation system to keep the cabin calm and quiet going down the road. You can upgrade the interior leather upholstery. A 7-inch touchscreen gives navigation and access to the impressive sound system.

Leather Recaro front sport seats and a black and red interior trim are distinguishing marks of the Black Edition. The Nismo model adds its own distinctive interior trim, as well.

Technology

The information and entertainment system in the 2016 GT-R is based on a 7-inch touchscreen. It gives you access to navigation, Bluetooth phone connectivity, Bluetooth audio, and a stellar 11-speaker Bose sound system, replete with CD, satellite radio and even USB interface.

The touchscreen system even allows you to take a peek at your performance, putting information like lap times and the current gear on the display. You can even look at the G-forces you generate during aggressive cornering.

Performance

Under the hood of the 2016 Nissan GT-R you’ll find a turbocharged 3.8-liter VG engine. This powerhouse is capable of generating 550 horsepower as well as 463 lb-feet of torque. It runs via a six-speed automated manual transmission, pushing power into the advanced all-wheel drive. The high end 2016 GT-R Nismo gives you an upgraded version of the turbocharged engine that will put out 600 horsepower and 481 lb-feet of torque.

Even with this impressive powertrain, the fuel economy is respectable. You should get a combined EPA estimated 19 MPG, with 16 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway.

Safety

A car that performs like the 2016 Nissan GT-R needs to be on top of safety, and this one is. The RearView Monitor gives you a wide 180-degree view. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System takes all of the guesswork away, notifying you with a dash icon when your tires aren’t inflated properly. The Electronic Traction Control System gives your vehicle the grip it needs, identifying when you have drive-wheel spin and reducing throttle to help grip and maintain control.

The Advanced Vehicle Dynamic Control system will do more than just apply the brakes or cut power when it senses a loss of control; when the system is in performance R-Mode, it will send more power to the appropriate wheels in response to over- or under-steer.

Advanced brakes and advanced airbags help to round out safety features of the 2016 GT-R. The LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system helps you make sure that compatible child restraint systems are in place without having to rely on seatbelts or mere clips to secure the system.
